2016 Pink Pape
Pale salmon in color with a light pink hue. Delicate aromas of rose petal, white peach and honeydew, with lifted notes of sweet pink grapefruit and lemon peel. The wine falls effortlessly onto the palate as light mountain berry and stone fruit flavors combine with fresh citrus qualities and a crushed river rock minerality. Driving acidity provides excellent focus and direction, drawing out the palate to a lingering, mouthwatering finish.
The 2016 Rosé is a blend of three traditional Châteaunuef-du-Pape varieties—Grenache, Counoise and Cinsault—all grown on our Blackrock Estate Vineyard on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley AVA. The individual blocks were harvested by hand in early September and loaded into the press while the clusters were still cold. A gentle and rapid press cycle helped to avoid excessive extraction from the skins, yielding a juice pale pink in color with delicate flavors and aromas. Fermentation was carried out at low temperatures in concrete and stainless steel tanks and continued until dry. After three months of maturation on lees, individual components were racked and blended to create a pure and vibrant rosé.

Grapes native to France’s Rhône Valley are the focus of our ‘Slice of Pape’ program – our homage particularly to the blended wines of the Southern Rhône. Slice of Pape, Slice of Pape Blanc, and Pink Pape (our dry rosé) are crafted from the best of these traditional varietals. Separately and together, they offer you a New World expression of these classic Old World wines. We include in our Spring release our Pinot Gris as it is the perfect complement to the menus of Spring and Summer, and ideal for sipping on the deck.
In our ongoing efforts to expand our reach with other varietally-focused wines, we look to grapes whose origins are within the Mediterranean region. Again the goal is to express the traditional characteristics of each varietal, capturing the essence in each wine’s distinctive aromas and flavors. We invite you to explore these special wines that have been inspired by the Mediterranean standard-bearers.
And finally, the cornerstones of our portfolio, we produce limited quantities of varietal wines, each focusing on a single grape. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah express the terroir of our Blue Mountain Estate Vineyard in Walla Walla. The Chardonnay comes from our Celilo Vineyard in the Columbia Gorge AVA, renown for growing the finest Chardonnay in Washington State. In these wines you can taste the grape’s unique character – its aromas, flavors, texture and detail.
