Lauri Corliss

2012 Barbera

Fragrant and seductive on the nose with lifted aromas of wild plum, spiced rhubarb, lilac and mint. The palate showcases the freshness and purity of this varietal, with tart raspberry and cherry stone flavors, alongside herbaceous elements of tobacco leaf and earth. Soft, fleshy and supple in texture, with a seamless acidity that draws out the palate to a lacy and persistent finish.

Winemaker Notes

Our Barbera was sourced from vineyards in the Red Mountain and Wahluke Slope AVAs. Cooler temperatures throughout the growing season further enhanced the bright cherry and plum fruit flavors typical of this high-acid varietal. Individual blocks were hand-harvested and sorted into small, oak open-top fermenters. After three to five weeks on skins, the wines were pressed into neutral French oak for extended maturation in barrel. This additional time allowed the primary red fruit flavors of the Barbera to take on more complex characters of new leather, spice box and dark berry fruits.
