Tranche Cellars

“It’s about being true and authentic to the classic styles of wines in the world.

Throughout our Estate Vineyards, we cultivate a diverse collection of some of the world’s most interesting grape varietals.”

Lauri Corliss

2012 Sangiovese Estate

The nose is filled with dark, brooding aromas of wild fig, black cherry, wet earth and forest floor. Firm, fleshy tannins are complemented by charred barrel notes, providing wonderful richness and warmth to the palate. Dark fruit flavors of plum and cassis slowly develop into more earth-driven characters of dried tobacco, bay leaf and underbrush, intensifying to a rustic, savory finish.

Winemaker Notes

Our Sangiovese grapes are grown on two small terraced blocks on our Blue Mountain Estate Vineyard, at the foothills of the Blue Mountains in Walla Walla. Grapes were harvested by hand in late October and made the short journey to the Tranche winery, which is nestled between the vines at the base of the property. Native fermentation in oak and gentle pumping over of the cap produced a richly aromatic wine, with dark fruit and savory, earth-driven flavors. The Tranche Sangiovese is an authentic and inspired expression of one of Italy’s most celebrated varietals.
